A new library at Bathwick
The new Wheatley Woodland Library at Bathwick St Mary Church School was officially opened by renowned local author Catherine Bruton recently! We are very grateful to Catherine for speaking to and inspiring a group of children from every class in the school and for cutting the ribbon with a magnificent pair of golden scissors.
The old library at Bathwick St Mary Church School was well used and much loved, but was too small to allow a whole class to properly enjoy it. The new library is much bigger and has more space for books and for reading, so children will have more opportunity to use the library at lunchtimes, to explore the library as a class and to enjoy reading in the many different reading spaces. We are looking forward to expanding the library with even more books and to using the space for upcoming author visits.
The Wheatley Woodland Library is designed as a calm reading and working space with books at the very heart. The fabulous woodland design was based on ideas from our children, with painted trees adorning the walls, cushioned tree alcoves (so you can imagine you are reading inside a tree), a wonderful woodland entrance to the library and lots of comfortable woodland beanbags and tree stump seats. We have many brilliant new bookcases, displaying the very wide range of fiction and non fiction which is available for all ages to enjoy.
We are very grateful to the PTA at Bathwick St Mary Church School who have been fundraising for the whole school year to raise the money for this exciting project. We would like to thank the fantastic parents who painted the trees and built the alcoves, Mr Purkiss our Headteacher and Mrs Turner our librarian who both managed the project from start to finish and Peters for supplying the bookcases and providing overall library design. All our children are loving using the amazing new space!
