A right royal day out as Becky represents St Michael's at King's garden party

It was lovely to hear about some Royal recognition for one of our schools this week.

Becky Mellor, Head of School at St Michael's in Bath, had the enormous honour of representing the school at the King's garden party in Buckingham Palace.

The party was celebrating those involved in Education and Skills. I was invited as part of our work with St. John's Foundation who support the under-served families of Twerton, along with three other Heads of Bath schools in similar circumstances.

Becky told me: "Despite cancelled trains and a flat tyre on the motorway, we made it there in time for a quick wave at the King, cucumber sandwiches and the absolutely beautiful gardens of Buckingham Palace. We even bumped into @ICT_MrP who stopped for a chat!"

The work of the St John's Foundation is truly inspirational and we have regularly reported on the links between St Michael's and the charity.

St John’s, as a community focused charity, aims to help those most in need in Bath and North East Somerset.

The charity says: "In spite of appearances of wealth and prosperity, the area faces many socio-economic challenges. There are gaps in educational attainment, cutbacks in spending and benefits, poverty and deprivation. Social housing is in short supply and house prices are at an all-time high.

"So, it is our duty to try to help those most in need, through a range of forward-thinking social initiatives and partnership programmes, and the provision of almshouse accommodation and associated services.

"We help underserved younger people, mature people and those in crisis. We believe in helping to shape a much kinder and more caring community, where everybody, irrespective of age or social environment has the opportunity to thrive and lead fulfilling lives."

What a wonderful day, the sun shone and didn't they all look splendid!
