Consultation on possible changes to education structures in Frome

A consultation has begun which asks the Frome community whether there is support for a significant change to local education structures, specifically a move from the current three‑tier system to a two‑tier education system.

The consultation materials and proposal documents are now available on the Somerset Council Citizen Hub at: https://somersetcouncil.citizenspace.com/childrens-services/frome-education-structures/

In addition, there will be two face-to-face events for anyone who would like to explore the consultation in more detail. These events will be led by Somerset Local Authority and the details can be found on the Citizen Hub page above.

The proposals being presented follow extensive and thoughtful collaboration between key educational partners, including Trust CEOs, Headteachers, the Local Authority, the Diocese, and the Department for Education. As always, our shared focus has been on ensuring the best possible educational experience and long-term opportunities for all children in our communities.

The consultation includes proposed changes that would have an impact on all schools in the area. I would strongly encourage as many parents and carers as possible to engage with the consultation process; this is your opportunity to help shape the future of education for our children.

Once the consultation period closes, all responses will be reviewed and considered carefully by education leaders and other key stakeholders.

Consultation dates and next steps

  • Consultation opens: Monday 23 February 2026
  • Consultation closes: Friday 20 March 2026
  • Feedback review: 21–31 March 2026

If the consultation shows community support, a full statutory consultation with detailed proposals would be developed and launched in June–July 2026.
