Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust

Positive changes afoot for St Nicholas CofE School

A Templecombe primary school is marking significant improvements after joining a multi-academy trust and appointing a new leadership team.

These changes at St Nicholas Church of England VC Primary School, which has 94 children on roll, are already having a visible impact on the lives of pupils and staff.

Since joining the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust in March 2024, the school has benefited from “highly effective support” to deliver a broad curriculum designed to meet the needs of its pupils, Ofsted inspectors have reported.

This is particularly evident in the early years, where children in reception class are well on track to become confident readers and writers, with a curriculum that steadily develops their knowledge over time.

Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported and benefit from an inclusive and rich curriculum.

And in key stage two, teachers have instilled in children a real love and enthusiasm for reading.

Children feel safe in school, inspectors observed. They are well cared for, and the school has ambitions to provide every child with “high quality personal development”.

Any concerns raised by children are addressed promptly.

The school is proud of the strides being made, Ofsted noted.

Most parents and carers are positive about the changes and say they would recommend the school to others.

Attendance, a top priority for the school, is continually improving. And staff at the school feel well supported.

Executive headteacher James Webb was appointed in September 2024, along with a new head of school and SENCo lead.

Mr Webb said: “There are positive changes afoot at St Nicholas.

“We have taken decisive steps to address the areas of improvement identified by Oftsed and are proud of the significant progress we have made, and continue to make every day.

“With the brilliant support of our trust and the hard work of everyone involved, we are committed to ensuring every child receives the education they deserve.”
