St Mark’s wins award for outstanding contribution to online safety

In today’s digital world, helping children navigate the internet safely is more important than ever. From social media to online learning platforms, young people are constantly connected—and while technology offers incredible opportunities, it also presents risks.

That’s why schools play a vital role in teaching pupils how to stay safe, make responsible choices, and build positive digital habits.

So it was with particular pride that we heard St Mark’s has been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Online Safety award from SWGfL (South West Grid for Learning) as part of their 25-year celebration!

The award ceremony took place on the Pier on Tuesday this week, where Miss Marsh, the school's wonderful E-Safety Lead, and Mrs Rooke, their dedicated Safeguarding Governor, attended to accept the certificate on behalf of the school.

SWGfL gave a lovely speech about how St Mark’s has been leading the way in online safety since 2019 — achieving the E-Safety Award every year since then!

This recognition is a fantastic reflection of Miss Marsh’s hard work, enthusiasm, and expertise, and of the whole staff team, who work together to make sure our pupils learn how to use technology safely and responsibly.

On behalf of the Trust, I am thrilled to see St Mark's recognised for their ongoing commitment to online safety — and we know they will continue to make sure all pupils stay safe and confident online!

The St Mark's citation from SWGfL read as follows:

For delivering outstanding online safety policy and practice in their school community.

This award celebrates a school that has shown exceptional online safety practice, demonstrating a mature, reflective, and progressive approach towards keeping their communities safe online. From leadership and infrastructure to their curriculum and culture, this school has stood as a beacon for how online safety can be embedded into every layer of education."
