Message from CEO 26th March 2017

Dear All,

We have all spent time this week thinking about the people affected by events on Wednesday in Westminster including staff, pupils and leaders at St John and St Francis Church School, their community and all of those nationally and internationally.  It was a very emotional moment as parents and carers, Lisa, staff, and governors welcomed Y6 pupils, teachers and accompanying parents back to school late on Wednesday evening.  Thank you to the Y6 pupils whose bravery, spirit and resilience touched so many people.  I am also deeply grateful to the amazing teachers and parents who supported Y6 throughout their trip, to Lisa for her strong, calm, caring presence that helped and reassured waiting parents and for the whole St John and St Francis community – especially parents, carers and staff – for showing such support and care for all at the school.

I am delighted to be able to inform you governors at St John the Evangelist Church School have appointed Ian Doswell as Head teacher from September. Ian is currently Head teacher of Ark Academy, Wembley, having previously moved to London from Weston Super Mare.  When he takes up his new post, Ian will be building on the high quality work already undertaken at St John’s by Cathy Cowell and her strong team. Ian is committed to the school’s inclusive, Christian ethos, the pursuit of academic excellence and further developing extra-curricular opportunities.  Thank you to governors for all your hard work throughout the appointment process that has resulted in such a strong appointment.

Meetings, training and development opportunities this week:

  • TA Champions, North Somerset

    Wednesday 29th March, 12:00 – 15:00, St Mark’s Church School

    Lunch 12pm – 1pm

Next week we will be interviewing for Assistant Directors of Learning and Achievement for our Trust who will take up post from September.  There is a strong field of applicants.  Head teachers are very welcome to join the interviewees for lunch on Wednesday, 12.30 – 1.30pm, at St John and St Francis Church School.  I will let you know the outcome of this two day process.

Taking part in the CofE MAT Leadership Programme at the end of the week, there was so much to celebrate in the progress of our Trust.  I was proud to represent you all, the work you are doing and the aim we share – developing the highest quality teaching and learning so every child in our Trust can achieve the best possible education of mind, body and spirit.

Kind regards

Philip
