Nova’s starring role in film with universal message

Helen at St Mark’s has been telling us about a video that Nova, a pupil, took part in. The video was written and directed by Nova’s dad with the universal message, For whatever reason,’If you feel like you don’t belong ...You do!’

Nova’s little brother has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and the family has done a lot to raise awareness of this condition with the ‘I Belong’ campaign alongside Tom Ball, who Nova’s dad manages. Tom Ball, who was a former teacher, became diabetic himself at the age of 8 and is now a Diabetes Ambassador. Tom was a Britain’s Got Talent finalist, and he got the America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer - his song plays behind Nova’s acting role.
Like many after a diagnosis, Tom felt the challenge of being different, but in that very same year he discovered music, an escapism which later became a talent and passion.
Tom actually recalled not only remembering and relating to Radiohead’s version of ‘Creep’, when first released but then later when a teacher used the song to empower and educated a number of children who expressed to him in feeling that same sense of not fitting in for different reasons.
The song is the soundtrack to the video, which is a story Tom wanted to tell, and was the inspiration to his powerful and stunning AGT All Stars final performance.
Helen shared the video in worship this week at St Mark’s and says it has such a powerful message for children and adults alike and it could truly make a difference to the lives of those who watch it.
